Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day here in Cabin John Regional Park. Join us as we keep track of the different migratory birds that pass through the park this time of year. Ask our naturalist any bird related questions as well. All levels of birders welcome, you are welcome to bring your own pair of binoculars, the nature will have pairs to borrow if necessary. Registration is required for this program.

Project FeederWatch is a seasonal community science project, where participants count the different species of birds that flock to a bird feeder. All levels of birders are welcome.
We advise you to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring your binoculars if you have them. Registration is encouraged, just so we can notify participants of cancellations. You are not required to attend all the sessions in the season, come to as many as you like If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email to [email protected]."

Do you have an interest in birding? Then join us for a morning of bird watching at Cabin John Regional Park. Bring a thermos of your favorite breakfast beverage to enjoy as you learn beginner birding techniques . Bring your own pair of binoculars or borrow a pair from the nature center, we will show you how to use them. Registration is required for this program.

Join a Park Naturalist for an off-site hike and get to know a new park! Includes 60 to 75 minute hike and social chat at the end. The Nature on Wheels vehicle will provide seating, water and bathroom access (using stairs). This month we will be meeting at Rays Meadow Local Park. This event is for beginner hikers with more emphasis on nature interpretation. Trail is selected for relatively flat terrain and distance will be under 1.5 miles.

Socials for 55+ is a program is tailored for individuals aged 55+, and this session offers a chance to explore the beauty of the night sky and make new friends who share your passion for stargazing. This particular night will be lighted by a full moon as well as the Lyrids Meteor Shower. Lyrids are known for their occasional outbursts where the rate of meteors can surge up to 100 per hour. Join us for an unforgettable evening under the stars! We will provide coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Please feel free to bring snacks or a light picnic. We will have limited binoculars and spy scopes to share. Please bring your own stargazing equipment if you are able. Registration is required.

Join us as we partner with “Age Well Senior Fitness” to promote physical fitness and wellness. Participants will utilize our beautiful open space, trails, and outdoor fitness equipment to improve their balance, muscular strength, and flexibility while enjoying the benefits of exercising in a natural environment. Instructors have specialized training to provide a safe and effective workout that meets the unique needs of active adults 55+. Soak up the Vitamin D and stay active and healthy. While modifications will be provided to meet the various levels of fitness, this program is designed for individuals who can walk independently without using assistive mobility devices. Participants should bring their own mat and water. 2-5 lb. weights will be provided. Participants may bring their own hand weights if desired.

Want to watch wildlife or just enjoy a peaceful paddle? Then join us for a leisurely kayak tour of Little Seneca Lake. We could see beaver, herons, maybe even a bald eagle. We’ll supply boats, paddles, and PFD’s. Adaptive equipment will be available to assist participants in getting in and out of the kayak. Please wear a hat, water sandals or shoes (no flip-flops, please) and bring water and sunscreen. You can expect to get your feet wet and your clothes a bit damp. Basic paddling experience is necessary (this is not a lesson). Meet in front of the gazebo by the pontoon boat dock and boat rental area. Registration required.

This is an in-person instructor led line dance class which performs steps to various kinds of popular music. Class operates every Thursday at the Potomac Community Center. Minimum age of 55 is required.
