Join us for a walking tour of Brookside Gardens’ late spring blooming shrubs and deciduous plants. Explore our colorful collection of azaleas and rhododendrons while learning how to incorporate them into your own home garden.

Connect with and care for your inner self through the Strolls for Well-Being, an evidence based program that promotes emotional healing and wellness through connection to nature. Over the course of eight weeks, you will complete twelve walks individually in Brookside Gardens, on your own schedule and with a beautiful full-color, 110-page journal as your guide. Each walk has its own theme, reflected in the journal with readings and writing prompts encouraging you to slow down, be present, and look inward. Those struggling with difficulty, stress, or transition may particularly benefit. Dates listed are for group meetings at the beginning, middle, and end of the program, where you will receive important information/materials and share insights with other participants (before registering, please be sure that you can commit to attending all three sessions).

Gardening has been proven to improve physical health, mental wellness, and cognitive ability! Join us for this 5-session series to learn how to grow native plants, herbs, or vegetables. This program is designed to support aspiring gardeners with disabilities. We will supply guidance and all materials, including accessible garden beds, worktables, and ergonomic garden tools. At the end of our program, you will have acquired the skills, and plants, to take home and continue your garden adventures. Participants will be asked to complete a Modification Intake Form upon registration to ensure appropriate support from Program Access. Registration required.

This freestyle session is for figure skaters age 18 and older only who are at a Free Skate 1 or Teen and Adult 3 level.

This list of activities are for the Cabin John Ice Rink's schedule for Stick and Puck Sessions for ALL AGES. Full gear is required for all skaters under at 18. All skaters must wear a helmet and hockey gloves. No scrimmaging is allowed on stick and puck sessions. Players need to bring their own pucks.
Coaching is strictly prohibited on these sessions except with a Cabin John Ice Rink contracted coach.

Studies show that babies as young as a few weeks old thrive with daily outside time. So pack your baby in a carrier and join us for a low-key nature walk lead by one of our naturalists. Get to know other local parents while enjoying the fresh air and beauty of Cabin John forest. The trail is on natural surfaces with dirt, rock and rut. Trails steepness varies and some trails will only be accessible with stairs. Trails are not stroller accessible. Fee is for one child and their adult for the entire Spring session, which meets Thursdays from April 18 to May 23, with May 30 for weather makeup (6 classes).

Join us as we partner with “Age Well Senior Fitness” to promote physical fitness and wellness. Participants will utilize our beautiful open space, trails, and outdoor fitness equipment to improve their balance, muscular strength, and flexibility while enjoying the benefits of exercising in a natural environment. Instructors have specialized training to provide a safe and effective workout that meets the unique needs of active adults 55+. Soak up the Vitamin D and stay active and healthy. While modifications will be provided to meet the various levels of fitness, this program is designed for individuals who can walk independently without using assistive mobility devices. Participants should bring their own mat and water. 2-5 lb. weights will be provided. Participants may bring their own hand weights if desired.

Interested in learning archery? Participants will learn basic skills and safety instruction. You will learn how to hold, aim, draw, and shoot a bow. We will introduce or build on participant's current knowledge/skills of archery and provide time to practice each new skill. We will supply all the equipment, a safe place to shoot, and a Certified Instructor to guide you. Please bring a water bottle and dress for the weather.

Prerequisite: Passed Level 1 Archery
Interested in more archery? Intermediate archery focuses on the draw cycle. You will learn how to anchor, transfer/hold, aim, and release/follow through. We will supply all the equipment, a safe place to shoot, and a Certified Instructor to guide you. Please bring a water bottle and dress for the weather.

Whether you are a novice, or you shoot better than Robin Hood, this class is for parent/guardian and their children interested in the sport of archery. It is a really FUN way for boys and girls to learn about archery in a positive learning environment involving both parent and child! Participants should wear comfortable clothing. This is an outdoor class, so participants should dress accordingly. Fee covers one child and one adult; register the child only.

If you have always wanted to try golf or have not played in years and want to pick it up again, this is an easy, inexpensive way to get into the sport. For just $99, you will get four weeks of professional instruction from a Montgomery County Golf Academy Certified Instructor, and learn the basics of golf: proper stance, grip, chipping, putting, driving, golf etiquette, and more. Fee covers loaner clubs and balls. Class sizes are small (no more than 8 students), so you are sure to get a good bit of personal attention.

Shallow water aerobics class with high energy packed with power that will sculpt your abs, glutes, and more.

This workout integrates dance and exercise! Aqua Dance adds all of the benefits of aquatic exercise to these popular high-energy dance workouts.

This class is low intensity and low impact, and will improve joint flexibility, balance and coordination. For those with arthritis, or recovering from injury or surgery, this class will help reduce muscle weakness, pain and stiffness in the upper and lower body.

Patrons of all fitness levels can spin their wheels on a stationary bike in the water. This invigorating class combines the best of a cycle spinning class with a water exercise class. Some of these benefits include: high intensity workout using the water to cushion and protect the joints as well as facilitate high caloric burn, lean muscle building of upper and lower body, and cardio conditioning. Get ready to have fun! Aqua shoes are mandatory.

Aqua Yo-Lates blends yoga and pilates exercises giving you the best of both worlds. The gentle movement sequences will improve range of motion and help strengthen the whole body.

Running in deep water is an ideal cardiovascular exercise with no weight-bearing stress. This exercise is beneficial for cross training and rehabilitating. Deep water belt is required and can be purchased for $20.

A unique class that gives you a cardio workout with a blend of Yoga and Pilates exercises infused into the workout.

Multi-level aerobics class using water resistance to increase range of motion, strengthen muscles and improve cardiovascular fitness. It is not necessary to get your face wet.

This is a novice class designed for 10 and under divers who are either just starting to learn diving of have started but only know basic dives.
Participants must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted and be comfortable in water deeper than 12 ft. A swim evaluation will be conducted on the first day of class.
