Drag Story Hour is just what it sounds like! Drag performers reading stories to kids. DSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, children can see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish and where dress up is real.

Drag Story Hour at Brookside Gardens with Mx. Bella is a free program supported by Drag Story Hour DMV and Brookside Gardens to provide social connection, celebrate the cultural contributions of the LGBTQ+ community and share stories of inclusion. Community organizations will be on site with LGBTQ+ affirming resources for participants which will be available to the public after each performance.

Advanced registration is required for this event. All children must register and may be accompanied by up to 1 adult. Adults who are not accompanying a registered child will not be granted admission to the program at the Visitor Center auditorium.

Music! Prose! Poetry! Come out to Brookside Gardens’ Poetry and Music Open Mic that highlights writers, poets, and musicians with disabilities, although all writers/musicians are welcome to perform! This is a FREE event, light refreshments will be provided.

Socials for 55+ is a program tailored for individuals aged 55+. Join us for a series of hands-on activities centered around this versatile herb. Captivate your senses and learn the therapeutic benefits of dried lavender by creating lavender hand scrub, lavender oil, and lavender scent bags. Materials provided. Registration required.

Experience the thrill of mountain biking in our new Adaptive Mountain Biking program at Wheaton Regional Park on Sunday, August 4th! Designed inclusively for individuals with disabilities, this adventure promises excitement and fun for everyone.

While our cycling fleet continues to grow, we'll do our best to accommodate all participants, though we may not have the perfect bike for everyone just yet. Detailed information about available bikes and the trail will be provided upon registration and on our website.

To ensure a seamless experience, please indicate your preferred time slot during registration. Join us for a day of outdoor adventure and camaraderie on the trails!

This is a perfect way to learn the basics of biking from certified bike coaches.

We do have a limited number of bikes and Helmets available free of charge in case you don’t have one (we will ask to hold something as collateral during the program – cell phone/credit card/etc.).

**For those who bring their own bicycle – we ask that you ensure that the bike is in SAFE/WORKING order PRIOR to attending the group ride**

Pre-requisites/Requirements:

Ages 6+
Must bring a positive attitude – get ready to have fun!
Participants must wear CLOSED TOED SHOES

Registrants must provide their own:

Water bottle/hydration pack

It is also highly encouraged that participants wear:

Sunscreen
Bike gloves
Above the ankle socks

This is a no rider left behind group ride – think “party pace”

There will likely be some “session-ing” and skills instruction along the way.

This is a perfect way to meet other riders and build skills on your bike.

Must know how to operate a bicycle with gears/hand brakes (no coaster brakes)

Bike gloves
Above the ankle socks

This is a perfect way to expand on your skills aboard a bicycle from certified bike coaches.

Depending on the location you can expect a program that includes:
- Bike set up and safety
- Body position
- Shifting and cadence
- Looking ahead
- Effective braking
- And more!

**Please pay attention to the location of the program as some programs will require dirt tires**
