Introduction to Botanical Illustration with Watercolors - PBG0095

Instructor: Joan Ducore, botanical illustrator

In this two-part class you will be introduced to the world of botanical art and learn introductory drawing and painting techniques especially suited to plants. The first session will focus on drawing accurately through developing an awareness of Line, Shape, Space and Relationship. The second session will focus on painting techniques with watercolor. Students will learn through a variety of class exercises and complete a study piece featuring tulips.

Family Fishing Fun! - PBHDC0003

Fishing is fun for the whole family and for all abilities! We'll show you how to set up a simple bobber rig, bait your hook, and give you some tips on casting. We'll provide the bait and rigging supplies; you just need to catch the fish! We have fishing poles you can borrow, but if you have your own bring it along. Anglers of all abilities are welcome. Salamanders Went Out on a Rainy Night - PBHDC0014

Once a year, on warm, rainy nights, elusive spotted salamanders migrate to breeding pools to mate and lay eggs. Sign up now to join us on that UNKNOWN March date and we'll call you the day of the hike. Wear shoes or boots that can get muddy, dress for the weather, and bring a flashlight. Children should be comfortable walking in the woods at night. The hike is about 1-mile roundtrip. Please register all participants. Be sure your contact information is updated and correct. When contacted on the day of the hike, registrants will need to confirm their attendance with a staff member. Meet at Rachel Carson Conservation Park, 22201 Zion Road, Brookeville, MD. Babes in a Backpack - PBHDC0051

Let’s go outside and hike to improve fitness, play in nature, and experience the great outdoors as a family. You will meet a naturalist at the meet up spot and set out on a trail that will have nature play and fun learning prompts along the way. These hikes are designed for adults with young children. Most trails are not stroller accessible, so you’ll need a backpack or carrier for younger kids and non-walkers. Please register everyone attending no later than 24 hours before the hike so we can contact you with the hike's location and other important information.

Maple Sugar Walk - PBNC0037

Each February visit the Maple Grove at Brookside Nature Center and experience the uniquely North American tradition of maple sugaring! Hike with a naturalist to the grove and learn how sugar maple sap is collected and transformed into maple syrup! This is an indoor and outdoor program on natural surface trails, participants should dress for weather and trail conditions. All attendees must register. Inclement weather could cancel this program.
