Rec Regatta
Rec Regatta
Join us for the Rec Regatta. Make your own cardboard boat and join the race at the Olney Swim Center. Boats and paddles may only be created from clean cardboard and duct tape and must hold 2 people. Boats may be a maximum width of 60" and a maximum length of 84". Family group can have all ages participate in boat creation, but must be 10+ to be in the boat. Awards for Fastest Boat, Best Design, Team Spirit and Most Spectacular Sinking will be given. Participants should arrive at noon with their boats. Final touches can be done at facility. Races will begin at 1 p.m.
Boat Construction
Boats and paddles must be made only of cardboard and duct tape. Duct tape cannot be painted.
Bottom of boat may not be covered in duct tape. Used for seems only if necessary.
Boats must be made before the race and will be inspected by the judges. No adjustments can be made to boat once inspected.
Boats may be a maximum width of 60” (5 ft) and a maximum length of 84” (7 ft).
The boat’s passenger area must not be enclosed above the Captain or First Mates shoulders.
Race
Racecourse is one length of the Olney Swim Center lap pool (25 yards).
Boats must be propelled using arms or cardboard paddles.
Each team must have two people in the boat. Sailors must be 10 years and older.
Race must begin and end with two crew members in the boat.
Non-swimmers must wear an approved personal flotation device.
